What is TrekCreative?
Trekcreative
is a mailing list for the discussion and creation of Star Trek fan
fiction. We discuss stories in progress, your views on the Star Trek
universe at large, and other issues and questions related to Star Trek
and/or other Science Fiction and Fantasy subjects. Members are
encouraged to post both finished stories and stories in progress they
are looking for feedback on. You can also post web addresses and bios
on the Trekcreative web site.
How do I get my site and/or bio on the TrekCreative Website?
You to can
list your bio (if you wish) and Photo (Again only if you wish) And even
if you don't want either I will list your website and stories. Usually
only the latest effort. Take a look and if you want to add yourself
feel free.
Some simple rules.
- Your listing stays up as long as you are an active member in the mailing list.
- Photos should be 200x250 pixels. If they are
not I will alter them to make them 200x250 pixels. Logos are roughly
200 wide, height indeterminate. I will size that as I see fit as long
as I can make it readable. I try and keep the page readable and pretty
from 800x600 to 1280x1024.
- Please follow the formats as you see them. I
will accept uncoded info, or you can grab the HTML coding from the page
and send it to me coded. I will edit to suit format, or if you send me
an autobiography better found in a book.
- I do insist on HTML 4.0 standards. The better to serve all web browsers.
- I would list more but Jay P. Hailey used all the bullet points.
How is this updated?
By your
friendly neighborhood webmaster. The TrekCreative Mailing List site is
part of the massive Olde Phoenix Inn
website. run by Garry Stahl, AKA the list owner of TrekCreative. Your
humble servant is pretty good about getting updates posted in a timely
fashion.
Post your update to the TrekCreative list and it will appear shortly on the page.
Do you promote websites any other way?
We also now have the Star Trek Creative Ring. "Star
Trek, by the Fans, for the fans. Herein is a place for Star Trek as we
see it, and as we write it. Be it Series Characters, Original
Characters, or Treknical Papers. This is Star Trek as we enWhat does YBYW mean?vision and create it. We invited you to explore within."
Anyone who's website fits the
above diescription is welcome to list. You do not have to be an active
memeber in the Trekcreative mailing list. Membership follows standard
webring formats and rules.
What format should my e-mail be in?
E-mail
should be in plain text without colored backgrounds or font settings.
HTML e-mail is enabled for the rare and unusual times you must place extra
complexity into your posts. Blatant abuse of this will cause me to turn
off HTML mail for the whole group. You will then be castigated by your
fellows.
Is picture posting allowed?
Yes.
However, not everyone can see the pictures. Digest mode doesn't
preserve attachments, and we have meembers who prefer digest mode. It
is better to post a link to the picture, or place it in the files
section.
What 'rating' of pictures is allowed to be
posted to the group via email attachment, or in the Files/Photos
Sections? 'G'? 'PG'? 'R'? 'X'???
With the
problems anything vaugly adult has been having, and the fact
TrekCreative is not an 'adult' group in the Yahoo sense, the picture
rating is PG for attachments or the file section on yahoo groups. You
can link to anything you want, but warn people.
Why can't I post more adult pictures or stories?
The short
and sweet is that TrekCreative is not an "adult list" in the
YahooGroups sense of the word. It means we do not have to deal with
special restrictions as to who can or cannot join, but it does impose
it's own set of rules. There is no prudishness involved.
There is a sister list TrekCreative_Adult. Click the link to subscribe by e-mail or go to The Website here. You must be over 18 to join.
What does YBYW mean?
"YBYW" is
short for "Your Board, Your Wave". It is the signal to agree to
disagree. Under the guiding Principle of "Your-Trek/My-Trek" we do not
endlessly argue points to "win". We discuss our differences to help
clarify in our own minds how things work, or look, to us. YBYW is a
polite way to say "we are not agreeing on this, so let's stop before we
argue". It is considered the height of rudeness to press a point that
has been YBYWed.
