USS Mitchell Paige NCC-1942
Brief description of ship: Basic Miranda style hull with a
vastly over powered warp core, standard towing pad, and tug tractor
array. She is armed like a heavy frigate. She has a single "thru deck"
hanger on the starbord side giving her an asymmetric profile.
Appearance: Epiphany Trek: Matters of Perspective
Campaign role for the ship: Warts are fun to write about.
Fleet role: Pulling cripples out of the line of battle,
while the battle is still raging, or what ever other heavy lifting
needs to be done.
Age: Launched 2283 in her current configuration.
Built: Venus Covert Yards. The Mitchell Paige was
one more Miranda class frigate in the fleet. During the height of the
Klingon tensions of the late 23rd century. Some bright boy got the idea
of a heavily armed tug that could rescue ships from under fire,
salvaging them for repair and saving their crews. The Mitchell Paige
was pulled off the line, and turned into the true bastard of Starfleet,
a heavily armed tugboat. How well she might have worked in practice was
never discovered. However, being a queen of the odd-job has saved her
from the scrap heap a dozen times. There is always, "one more thing we
need her for". She is the first, and last of her "class".
Length: Haven't figured it out yet. Miranda length.
Distinguishing Marks: Her paint is not in the best of
shape. While the Paige has "enjoyed" nearly continuous service, she has
not enjoyed the best of care. Damage from her rough line of work has
resulted in a patchwork of slowly aging area repaints and repairs. For
some reason she always gets slapped back together for the next job, and
shoved out of spacedock. The ship has not had a 100% refit in 70 years.
Equipment Quirks and Problems: The Paige is a ship trying
to be two things at once. A frigate of the heavy class, just short of a
drednaught, and a heavy tug built for heavy lifting. This makes her a
crowded and not comfortable place to live and work. It also means her
equipment is a patchwork of systems some almost 100 years old, some
installed yesterday. The Paige is as close to the "old days" of
Starfleet duty as a Starfleet crewman will ever get. She offically
lacks modern amenities such as holodecks. Of note is the quaint old
receration deck left over from her days as a miranda class frigate.
What no one but the crew knows is that the rec deck is really a
holodeck pulled form the wreckage of Wolf 359. When not in use, it
replicates the ship's old rec deck. Most ot the ship's real upgrades
have been swiped off wrecks, and wedged in.
Equipment Advantages: Power, lots of it and then some. Equally usable for lifting capacity, protection, speed, or whup ass, pick any two.
Shuttles, number, any odd ones?: 30 shuttles 8 of which
are "evacuation shuttles" that barely fit into the hanger deck. These
large shuttles have oversized docking ports and an additional "jetaxe"
port that will attach to the hull of a ship, blast thru and leave a
single door docking port behind. These shuttles can be used to quickly
evacuate stations or ships with damaged entries. They can hold 100 in
relative discomfort for a period of hours, or 10 for months.
Dedication Motto: "Semper Fidelis"
Ships Crest: In a blue oval with a gold border, the
ancient eagle, globe, and anchor of the U.S. Marines. The globe is
replaced with the Federation star field. The ship's regestry number is
below this.
Home Port: La Quinta, California, Earth
Notable Previous Crew: She attracts grizzled oddballs, yet to be determined.
Captain Cornilus Armstong: Armstong thought the Paige
would be his ticket into the history books. The Klingons would go to
war and he would be the hero. He seriously over estimated the
situation. He transfered out as soon as he could. 2283-2291
Captain Roberta Waverly: Tight, is how most people would
describe her. Tight when in command, and tighter off duty. Captain
Waverly was a hard disciplinarian, a hard worker, and a harder drinker.
While she never let whiskey interfere with duty, her rowdy, bawdy, more
"colorful" than a longshoreman off duty behavior did her no service at
Headquarters. She didn't fit the mold of a Starfleet Captain, yet
nothing she did was actionable. The Paige was chosen to warehouse her.
Captain Waverly made the most of it. 15 of the Paige's unit citations
where earned on this woman's watch. Captain Waverly got the Paige her
last full refit. 2292-2310
Captain Ta'thoul: Logical and businesslike this Vulcan
woman was a drastic change in pace for the crew of the Paige. However
being logical, once she was assured that the effectiveness of the Paige
was not impaired by the rowdy nature of the crew, she ignored it. Her
tenure did affect the crew in time, and the Paige lost its rowdy
reputation by the time she left. 2310-2316
Captain Belia Thorne: Thorne was another Captain sent to
the Paige to warehouse him. Thorne had lost a ship under questionable
circumstances. No fault could be pinned on him, but Starfleet didn't
trust him, and had no official reason not to. Thorne himself was eaten
with guilt over the loss of the ship and most of his crew. Within two
years circumstances allowed his exoneration by martyrdom. Captain Belia
Thorne was killed in the line of duty, and was posthumously awarded the
Federation Medal of Honor. His less than two year tenure saw the Paige
receive six unit citations. 2316-2318
Captain 2318-2324
Captain 2324-2334
Captain 2334-2344
Captain 2344-2352
Captain Israeli Benjamin Armenson: Armenson is a refugee
from an intolerant religious colony. While he disagreed with the
methods practiced by his former neighbors, he is not in disagreement
with the ethics they failed to practice. He is a militant pacifist.
Captain Armenson will not fight you, but he will get his way. The seek
and rescue mission the Paige had carved for herself was a perfect berth
for this man. When he took command he saw that from the rough from of
one Ensign Roberts a good officer could be carved. He proceeded to
carve. Captain Roberts can thank this man that he is a Captain, and not
a bum. 2352-2372
Captain Harold Artemis Roberts 2372-present
Primary Power/Weapons: Collimator phasers around the
front of the saucer and on the "roll bar". The Paige is equipped with a
standard cargo pod docking pad. She also has the tractor array of a
heavy tug, and knows how to use it.
Secondary Powers/Weapons: Four photon/quantum torpedo
tubes mounted on the weapons pod in the middle of the roll bar.
Overrated shield generators. She can cover a second ship as well as
herself with frigate strong shielding.
Service History: Long, colorful, yet to be determined. The
Paige holds 63 unit citations for rescue and valor. More than any other
ship in the fleet.
Crew: 200 enlisted and officers
Command Staff
CO Captain Harry Roberts, Think of Humphrey Bogart
in The African Queen. Now put a rumpled Starfleet uniform (likely a
generation out of date) without any pips on him. He was the Academy
badboy in his class, he graduated by the skin of his teeth and the
grace of some god or another. Bottom of the class he got sent to the
Paige. He was old at 24 when he was assigned to her. He has never left
this ship in his 28 years in Starfleet. He has served in every office
on the ship but Captain's woman and CMO. He just got promoted to be her
Captain, and he loves every rusty bolt on this tub, and will knock you
on your ass if you say it to his face.
XO Lt. Commander Regina Harmond, It's a mistake,
someone really goofed and boy are they going to pay when she gets off
this disgrace. Upwardly mobile daughter of a prominent admiral, Regina
has enjoyed a glamorous career. Suddenly, this (EEEEK!) nightmare.
Little does Regina know that daddy put her here for her own good.
OPS Lieutenant
SECLieutenant
CENG Lt. Commander Josephine D'Avril,
CMO Lieutenant Varta Morck, XMD Dr. Morck is
rarer than hen's teeth, a Green Orion, male. He would be an excellent
doctor if Dr. Pepper didn't get I the way. A perfectly legal drink,
candy for humans, an intoxicate for the copper blooded Orions. His Dr.
Pepper habit has gotten him kicked from pilar to post. He landed on the
Paige before he ended up out of Starfleet. Captain Armenson (the
previous commander) personally deleted every copy of the Dr. Pepper
program from the ship's computer and every stash the Doctor had.. Off
the Pepper and dry for ten years now, Varta is coming into his own as a
doctor.
Csc Lieutenant Neebish, Nebbish is an oddball
among oddballs. He is the only Hal Armin in Starfleet. He came the
Federation as a technical assistance to a Hal Armin delegation. He was
so fascinated by all that he saw that he forgot to go home. Being an
embarrassment as a Hal Armin it is thought they might have deliberate
left him behind.
Neebish knocked around Earth
for a while, and drifted into Starfleet. He has been on the Paige for
ten years now.
