USS Andros ST-03
Behemoth Class Container Ship

Andros Crest Ship Class: Behemoth container ship.
Brief description of ship:  A long spindle with multiple docking pads for the fleet standard container (200x40 meters) used throughout the Federation. The Behemoth class is the Star Trek equivalent of a cross between a panamax container ship and a super tanker. A full view can be accessed here. File 4000x1000 pixels. Scale 1 meter to the pixel. Galaxy class shown for scale.
Story role for the ship:  Means of from here to there, possible McGuffin.
World role:  Fast Heavy Lift.  When lots of it absolutely must be across the Federation in three months.
Appearance: A brief mention at the beginning of "Ships in the Night" as the transport bringing the Acceptians to STB-224.
Age:  The Behemoth class is less than ten years in service.
Built: 2380
Length:  3785 meters
Distinguishing Marks (Odd paint job, repair scars etc.):  The Behemoths are maintained in horned fleet trim with typical blue paint jobs.
Equipment Quirks and Problems:  The Behemoth class goes in a straight line very fast.  Due to her length she turns like a wounded whale.
Equipment Advantages:  The Behemoth class can tow more faster than any ship in known space.  A Behemoth can carry 256 standard containers at warp 8 cruise. Empty she can make warp 9.7 cruise.
Shuttles, number, any odd ones?  The Behemoth class has a large hanger capacity.  Up to fifty standard shuttles can be accommodated.  The Behemoth class ships carry 10 each heavy tractor tugs for loading and unloading the cargo containers.  These tugs are little more than a shuttlecraft cabin mated to a ship sized impulse engine and tractor beam emitter.   Ships on the STB-600 run also carry four tender pods for Defiant class escort ships.
Dedication Motto: "That Others May Serve"
Ship's Crest: In a blue oval the head of a bull in black surrounded by "steaming" heat of hard work. Below the bull's head the word USS Andros curve up. Between it's horns the crest of the Galaxy Transport Command.
Home Port: Emerald City, Oz
Notable Previous Crew:  None noted.  Much to the distress of senior Captains Behemoths on the STB-600 run are a Commodore's posting due to the Defiant class escorts carried.
Primary Power:  Aurora FTL system 878 HE dual warp core.  This powers four AWJ HE warp nacelles also from Aurora FTL System.
Secondary Power: 6 FIQ Kloratis impulse drives.  8 FIN Kloratis impulse drives are located at various places to use as lateral control.
Primary Weapons:  Two standard photon/quantum torpedo tubes aft.  Ships on the STB-600 run carry four weapon pods with their own warp core for torpedo power.  Weapons pods have two otcolops torpedo turrets and 600 torpedoes each.  They also have two type ten phaser strips.
Secondary Weapons:  Type 8 phasers spotted about the hull.
Service History:  The USS Andros has been on the STB-600 run since she was commisioned. Three other Behemoth class ships are also currently on the STB-600 run, the USS Talos, USS Watt, and USS Bustard.  The STB-600 run begins at STB-224 on the Klingon Federation border, proceeds under the Klingon Empire to STB-601 "Ovid Station" and from there to STB-600.The Klingon raiders call her and her sister ships "tlqtajghargh" The Serpent with Long Knives.
Four Behemoth class ships are employed on the Sixliss resentment project.  One has been leased jointly by the Klingon Government and the Vulcan Planetary Council on a mission to the Great Orion Sector.  Two more have been ordered for trade to the Kurr Association and are currently under construction.
